The SARS-Coronavirus siRNA Set is the first siRNA set specific for the human coronavirus. This comprehensive tool facilitates gene silencing studies of coronavirus replication and cytopathology - key processes in the development of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
Each SARS-Coronavirus siRNA Set includes multiple siRNAs targeting each of the ten identified ORFs, as well as a positive control lamin A/C siRNA and a non-silencing negative control siRNA. Full disclosure of each of the siRNA sequences and their positions in the coronavirus genome is provided with the kit. Comprehensive background information and a handbook with optimized protocols for siRNA transfection in mammalian cells are also included.
The siRNAs were designed by experienced QIAGEN scientists to target each of the ten open reading frames, in regions that were homologous between two viral genomes reported in GenBank. A comprehensive database analysis was performed on each siRNA sequence to ensure that there was no cross homology to known human genes, allowing highly specific gene silencing.
